Our story
Before Saalt Foundation existed, the promise did: every Saalt purchase helped a girl in need receive period care. Eight years of keeping it grew into an independent public charity.
“Smile. Your purchase just helped a girl in need receive period care. Thanks for (period) caring.”
Printed on every Saalt package since 2018
Saalt launched in 2018 in Boise, Idaho, with a commitment built into its first sale: give a portion of everything to people experiencing period poverty. Not as a campaign — as a standing promise, printed where every customer would see it.
The logic was in the product itself. A reusable cup lasts up to ten years. Donate one, and you haven’t given someone a month of dignity — you’ve given a decade of it, and ended the recurring cost of disposables besides.
Eight years, one promise
Every milestone points at the same north star: a world where, by 2035, no one misses school, work, or dignity because of their period.
2018
Saalt launches — and gives from day one
The first products ship from Boise with the impact promise on the box, and the first annual impact report documents the first year of donations.
2019
Partnerships take root
The relationship with Style Her Empowered in Togo begins — still running today — and product donations become structured partner programs.
2020–2022
The work goes where it's needed
Programs continue through the pandemic; flood relief with HER Pakistan; a borehole build with Flo Haven in Nigeria; school programs with DROTY in Uganda.
2023–2024
Emergency response, at scale
Donations reach Venezuela, Lahaina, and hurricane-hit communities after Helene. In 2024 alone: 30,000 products donated, serving 147,252 periods.
Nov 2025
The giving program becomes a foundation
Saalt Foundation Inc is recognized as an independent 501(c)(3) public charity, with its own board — and Saalt's commitment to cover all administrative expenses.
Why we do this
“Founder quote from Cherie — 2–3 sentences on why the giving program became a foundation, in her own words. To be provided.”
Cherie Hoeger · Co-founder & CEO of Saalt, Board of Directors, Saalt Foundation
In November 2025, the giving program became Saalt Foundation — an independent 501(c)(3) public charity with its own volunteer board: Cherie Hoeger, Elizabeth Keeler, and Kristin Brown. The board oversees governance, evaluates program effectiveness, and approves every charitable partnership.
Saalt remains the founding partner — it pays all administrative expenses, so 100% of public donations fund programs and products. The promise on the package didn’t change. It just got its own name.
Program updates and the annual report, a few times a year. No asks between.
